Goodbye 2024
It’s that time of year again. December 31st. It is time to remember the highlights, lowlights, wins and losses of the last 12 months. 2024 you did not disappoint. But before we pack you into the history books let’s just get a sampling of some of the memorable things you provided for us all.
2024 you were not very kind to the airline industry. It has been year of cancelations, delays and computer problems. January kicked things off with a door plug blowing off of a Boeing 737-9 Max while in mid flight. Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 was one to remember for those passengers. While the year is ending with more negative news we hope 2025 can bring some normalcy and efficiency to air travel. How about we make those seats a little more comfy too!
February brought another Super Bowl victory for the Kansa City Chiefs. Yawn. Seen this before. Who will ever forget the endless coverage of Taylor Swift at the game. We counted at least 10 camera shots of her in her luxury suite and an ever lasting picture of an on field hug with her tight end life partner post game. Oh how my heart flutters with joy at the thought of the day.
March was fine until a container ship rammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The fear of supply chain disruption was almost immediate. 2024 also provided us with what may be the last hurrah of what we call the legacy media. They have proven to be unreliable and biased. Events like the bridge collapse provide opportunities for views and clicks where doom and hopelessness can be broadcast to the world. The bridge collapse was terrible. The supply disruption may have happened in part but for most of us life continued as normal.
April brought a total solar eclipse. People traveled to the best viewing spots in America and enjoyed the day. The soon to follow earthquakes and life changing disasters haven’t hit us yet. I am still waiting. Maybe this harbinger of doom is just a good opportunity to sell funky glasses for people to stare into the sun.
The end of spring was full of stories of war and unrest. Things raged on in Israel’s war against Hamas and the war in Ukraine has been an on going mess. We would have to wait until September for the great exploding pager and walkie talkie story that would come out of Lebanon. It seems that Wily Coyote was in charge of ordering supplies and the Acme Supply Company was being managed by the Mossad. 2024 you left us speechless that day.
In June Mexico elected its first female president. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s victory would not be followed by a woman being elected president in the USA. More to follow.
July was interesting. A sniper put a bullet through the top of Donald Trump’s ear at a rally. The shooter didn’t get so lucky. One attendee was killed and two were critically injured. It was a bad day. But the legacy media moved on quickly. Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race to make way for his vice president to run for the sake of saving democracy. The plan didn’t work. More to follow.
September brought Hurricane Helene to North Carolina and with it at least $53 billion dollars in damage. Lives will never be the same. It seems we can take a lot for granted, that things will remain the same. The area was deemed safe from disasters but disaster struck without mercy. 2024 provided many a reminder that we are not in control.
October was the month Jimmy Carter turned 100 years old. The longest living president in history. He wouldn’t live to see the end of 2024 but he lived a well respected life. Fair winds and following seas President Carter.
November bought an end to one of the most painful election seasons of my life. I think this one started in 2016. Donald Trump won a decisive victory against Kamala Harris. He will serve his second term and we all wait to see what 2025 will bring. National politics has become divisive and most of us just choose not to discuss it in open society anymore. Oh there are some who do and we know who you are. Once again the legacy media couldn’t have been more wrong.
December brought us the great mystery of drones over New Jersey. The government says they don’t know anything about it but there is nothing to fear. One certain celebrity went on record that aliens were flying them. We see you Rosie O, put the camera down. The skies are full of lights and the news is full of stories. The last couple years of disclosure have left more confusion and theories. Maybe Bruce Springsteen and Snooki are behind the drones. Can’t trust New Jersey.
2024 was a year. Yes it was. 12 months. 366 days. For me it was a good year. Some wins. Some heartbreaking losses of loved ones and friends. An addition to the family and introduction to being a grand parent. Definitely a highlight of the year. 2025 will be here in a few hours. I am ready for it. Maybe just not ready for the alien invasion just yet. 2026 may be better for that.
Happy New Year and may 2025 be a good one for us all.
